Bar. Sheshrao Wankhede College of Arts & Commerce, Khaparkheda was established in the year 1994 by Bar. Sheshrao Wankhede 56th Birthday Foundation, Nagpur under the Chairmanship of ‘Sahakar Maharishi’, Hon’ble Shri. Babasaheb Kedar to make available the degree-leveled education for the students of rural areas. The College has only-one faculty i.e. Arts. In 1994, the College started in the building of Maharashtra Vidyalaya run by Maharashtra Rajya Shikshan Sanshtan, a sister education society.
At the beginning, the college had emerged admissions and minimum essential educational facilities, but within a short period, the college made its development as an educational institute catering the educational needs of the rural population. Commerce faculty could not be started, as the students were not available. In the year 2000, the college shifted in its newly constructed building. The college has 8.30 acres of land for the expansion of playgrounds, building, and other facilities. During the session 1999-2000, the college started Home Economics as one of the optional subjects for girl’s students. Again in 2003, the college started English Literature as one of the optional subjects.
All the members of the teaching-staff are working with the well-defined objectives of balancing the horizontal expansion of higher education with vertical excellence and participating students in creative and constructive activities for their over-all development. In spite of non-availability of any type of development grant as UGC, the college aided with the funds of the institutions, trying hard to maintain its academic standards and to achieve its objectives. For the college which is established currently without any type of development, grants are obvious to have some deficiencies such as lack of research activity non-availability of updated infrastructure facilities for research and underdeveloped library. All these improvements need to be done in the college.
